PERSISTENCE AND PATIENCE: Serving the Lord with Gladness
Friends Into Serving Him® has officially become a part of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee, Michigan. Our leader started by placing a notice in the church bulletin about starting a new teen group. She then called each age appropriate girl in the congregation and personally invited her join. So in October 2010, our Friends group started with three teen members. Concerned about the lack of interest, our leader reminded us that “where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” So we continued to announce our presence through the church bulletin every week. We also handmade invitations and personally invited teens from our church and from school. Slowly we built up our group and we are now up to 6-8 members. We are a small group, but very dedicated young women.
We called our first service project “drop and run.” We decorated small pumpkins with Christian messages and dropped them on doorsteps around our town. We also brightened up our church with a winter banner and made Valentine’s Day paper flowers in vases with a special Christian messages that we delivered to the shut ins of our congregation. Right now we are working on replacing the bookmarks in our church hymnals.
This Friends group probably wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for the dedication of Mrs. Priscilla. She is a wonderful leader and she made the first meeting so much fun that it inspired us to try to make the group bigger. She is truly doing the Lord’s work, but she is too humble to admit how much she affects the people 
around her. We would like to thank the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League for making all of these groups and activities possible. It is good to have an evening to spend with friends who know Jesus as we continue to grow through devotions, prayers, and service projects, and enjoy our yummy treats!
